Growing by Giving Back

The final Golden West Taste of Summer Charity BBQ of the season wrapped up today, with money being raised for Estevan Minor Football (EMF) outside of Canuckade Rentals.

From July 31 to August 6 donations for the relief effort have grown to $973,158.00 raised across the province. With both the federal and provincial government matching donations, it triples the overall donation to $2,919,474.

$1,931.19 was donated to Headway, an organization that supports struggling youth and their families.  

“We believe it’s really important to put permanent rink boards at Rusty Duce, and it will be a year-round facility." With the upgrades, they hope to see the facility used for skating and hockey in the winter, and volleyball in the summer months.

"We are incredibly thankful to everyone who participated in the 50/50 draw. The funds raised will be instrumental in helping us break ground on our new facility and move forward with our plans."

The food has been served and the GM3000 Grain Bin from Meridian Manufactuing is now ready to move to its new home just outside of Portage. This year's grand prize winner is Verwey Farms, who farm land all around the Portage area.

The Estevan Public Youth Centre (EPYC) was the first non-profit to benefit from the proceeds to support its summer programming. EPYC executive director Merissa Scarlett said she was very happy with the turnout.

Ag producers from all around gathered once again at the MNP Exhibition Building for the Farmer’s Appreciation Lunch.

At this week’s Taste of Summer Charity BBQ, $2762.70 was raised and donated to Trailblazers Life Choices.

CFAM Radio 950's annual Farmer Appreciation Lunch, a heartfelt event honouring the hardworking farmers who are the backbone of the local economy.

The BBQ raised $3,045.40 to donate to Soup’s On.  Norma Hildebrand of Soup’s On is in charge of the school lunch program which is the recipient of all the funds this year.
